Calcium Pyruvate

A quarter century of medical research into Pyruvate has established it as unquestionably important for increasing exercise performance, muscle recovery and endurance. In fact, many scientists believe it is the most critical compound known today for improving exercise and sport performance.

 

Certain amounts of pyruvate are made normally in the body during metabolism when a six carbon molecule of glucose is broken down into two three carbon molecules of Pyruvate. Small amounts of pyruvate are also normally present in a wide variety of foods, for example, many fruits and vegetable, some cheeses, dark beer and red wine.

Increasing the amount of pyruvate available to the body through simple supplementation has yielded some amazing results. Replicated, double blind, scientific, treatment-outcome studies involving pryuvate supplementation have demonstrated performance gains averaging 20% in athletes. These spectacular gains result in large part from pyruvate’s ability to increase the transport of glucose in the muscle cells. In fact, recent studies have demonstrated a 300% improvement in glucose extraction in arm endurance exercises and a 60% gain in leg endurance exercises following pyruvate supplementation.

Pyruvate has further shown its impressive ability to enhance performance by assisting the athlete in increasing normal muscle glycogen stores an average of 50%.

Since pyruvate is a by-product of normal metabolism and available in small quantities in many foods, it is a completely natural substance for the body to digest and utilize. Current research demonstrates positive performance gains on dosage amounts as small as 2 grams daily. Interestingly, there are linear performance gains when raising from 2 to 5 grams, however, at 5 grams performance gains level off.

There is no loading stage necessary with Pyruvate. Athletes may see results immediately after Pyruvate supplementation however the full performance effects normally take up to 7 days to appear.

When supplementing Pyruvate for athletic enhancement purpose, you should look for a pure Pyruvate compound such as Calcium Pyruvate or Pyruvialglycine.
